rain water catchment systems

I have been considering building a rain water catchment system for my property and found some interesting info. on the web:

www.harvesth20.com.
Isla Urbana (a village solution)
Solucion Pluvial (for small business)
and a non-governement organization (NGO) International Renewable Resources Institute

1 square foot of roof space = .5 gallons @ 1 inch of rain per year

So if your roof is 1000 sq ft and the average annual rain fall is 35 inches that would equal 17,500 gallons ( approx. 70,000 liters) of water captured at a 0% evaporation rate.

This type of approach should be considered for existing and new homes, let alone a system(s)for the whole village of LM.

If anyone has constructed or has more info on rain water catchment systems I would really like to hear what you have to say.

Adios!
