We were planning on spending winter break at the Casa Maguey (we live in California) before I read on line about the beach takeover/closure/bulldozing of restaurants, etc. I do not remember ANYTHING about this in the stateside news. We have not yet made reservations, but in all honesty, I WAS surprised when I first inquired about room availability, that all three were available. I know understand why. If the beaches are still closed and guarded by the state police, I am afraid that I would not want to spend my vacation in what apparently was, but no longer is, an ecotourist paradise. It does sound like, from this message board, that there still is a thriving community there. I sincerely hope the beach opens to the public again soon.
