Ok the song is called "Tropas de Maria" - Mary's troops

And from what I recall it goes something like this....

Vamos cainando a Talpa llegando, a (something) Jesus llorando, a Jesus llorando..."

first verse is repeated.... over and over... more or less...

See the "danzantes" go ahead because they protect the contingent, they are dancing now, but normally these were well trained warriors, later known as "concheros" after the conquista.

The song is a battle song, since "they" would do anything for their "mother" /"virgen de Guadalupe" /"Tonantzin", etc.

this morning what most likely happened is they bring the Virgen of Talpa over and include her in the celebrations, she is the patron of the place mentioned in the song, another believed ancient power site. Besides she is supposed to be very efficient in performing miracles

And as far as choosing the floats I think it depends on the person making it or on the priest's mass calendar, he advises what scenes to use from the bible or whatever depending on the lectures they are discussing. But before each day was given to a different group of people to organize the floats and they decided if you looked like a Jesus or a Mary...

It usually changes with every new priest.

I hope I answered your questions...

Camila
