I did a bit of work on this and found this Mexconnect article on Legend of the Virgin of Talpa http://www.mexconnect.com/articles/1589-legend-of-the-virgin-of-talpa If this is the same statue which is now in La Manzanilla it helps to understand the excitement. On the song Tropas de Maria I had trouble finding the lyrics, even using the search query letra de tropas de maria. I did find this Mariachi rendition which is similar in tempo to what was sung this morning. http://www.youtube.com/v/mW-W6ngqwvo?version=3&hl=en_US I have not done more work on this but I bet somewhere there is a very rich historical explanation of the origins of Tropas de Maria. Here is the translation of the lyrics you remember, it surprises me that this song/ celebration has battle/revolution as a foundation. I guess I expected it to be more religious in origin. Maria troops follow the flag, let no one pass out to war, we go to war ... Our captain there in Talpa wait, take their weapons and go to war, we go to war ... Ends facing out and officers, soldiers brave no faint not, we go to war, we go to war ... Alarm soldiers with great joy to be well armed siguendo Maria, Maria following ... We cainando to Talpa coming to (something) Jesus crying, crying Jesus .. |
