I think some of the shorter-period waves might have come from TS Hector way out west and NW of us, but longer-period swells coming from south of the equator (winter storms down there?) have been mentioned in the NHC Tropical Weather Discussion for the last few days. Here's an example from yesterday morning: "CROSS EQUATORIAL LONG PERIOD S SWELL PROPAGATING N AS FAR AS 19N WITH SEAS TO 10 FT IS EXPECTED TO SUBSIDE FRI."

10 ft swell height is just a little higher than normal out in the open ocean. They only start mentioning swells if they get bigger than 8 ft.

From my house I could hear the waves rearranging the beach.

PS, no new storms on the horizon for now...
