I took a series of lessons from Hector's wife, Paulina, and it was a good way to learn. She will customize the lessons, give you homework, etc., and is a good teacher. Another good way to practice is to sign up with a language exchange like The Mixxer http://www.language-exchanges.org/messages Look for a Spanish speaker who wants to practice English; everyone uses skype, so it's free. You can talk, see your partner if you have webcams, and even write your conversation (sometimes I don't understand what they are saying, so I say,"Escribes, por favor," - then I usually get it). I also keep www.spanishdict.com open, so I can check words and constructions that are unfamiliar. Can't believe what a techie I've become! It is quite addictive; you keep checking to see who is online; it's also satisfying because of the give and take. Since I joined a month ago, I have had conversations with people from Equador, Mexico, Peru, Columbia, and several from Spain (Many of the folks from Spain are very motivated to learn better English, as their unemployment is so high now.) I talked with one guy today, a Spanish man living in England. His wife is a doctor there, and he is taking the whole winter off from working, so he can upgrade his English. He is available most of the day, and would like some more skype-pals, so I said I would post this. If you would like to speak with him specifically, email me, and I will give you his skype name. |
