A better idea might be to buy your insurance through the "Vagabundos" membership site. The cost of membership is de minimus, but you can purchase your policy well in advance of your visit. No need to stop at the border. The Vagabundos club has been in existence for many years and, although primarily interested in Baja, has been providing valuable services to members throughout Mexico.
