What wasn't mentioned in that article is that you can't upgrade an FMM to a resident visa in Mexico, it has to be done at a Mexican Consulate.

Also after 4 years on a resident visa (any) you are required to apply for a permanent resident visa

Many INM offices require no financials for current visa holder renewals but others are asking.
