Jsun asked me to post this:

In general, this is one of those “Sounds good on paper” ideas but the realities are far from theory. Solar lamp posts with batteries are only worth it if there is a very solid economic budget and there is no electric grid.

Even then:

1. The upfront cost is very expensive

2. Most of the time cheap, unreliable components are specified and used

3. Maintenance and replacement costs for batteries, controllers etc. are very high

4. Purchasing something like this from a company in Puebla would be not smart as there will be no warranty or guarantee

5. In general these public lighting projects with solar and batteries tend to be complete failures as the equipment fails or is not designed correctly from the beginning.

a. Later the lamps do not give enough light (or simply do not work) and everyone notices and then get mad that the money was spent on something that does not work.

6. After that everybody says “Solar does not work” because someone bought expensive but cheap equipment that was not correctly designed for the application.

Recommendation: Better off getting one of the existing light bulbs that is in one of the existing lamps on the square and we can find and specify the correct LED replacement. This will save them lots of $$ and allow the lights to stay on for longer periods of time. Also, the LEDs will last many times longer than the existing lamps/ light bulbs.

You can post this or forward to the right person as I do not have an account set up for the board.
