Gila,

While I enjoyed the first part of your post, suggesting the neo-colonial approach (feeling good about helping poor short brown people), I think your finish (bringing in another outsider) to tell the ex-pat community the needs of the village is just more of the same. Aide work is difficult, and must be coordinated with the folks who will receive it. And yes, a pro in the mix might be great, as long as their goal is toward the community...not their masters degree.
