I think them being here is important and given that them have homes and families in La Hureta (sp) it is no small thing for them to "live" here. Is there a way for LM to have influence to get one or more of them to live here? Or, could we get a local person or two on the force? Or....... why don't "we" rent them a real house and let it become the local police office? There is no shortage of places here that sit vacant. I can't help but think that the thought of coming to LM and sleeping on a floor and/or on hand-me-down stuff would make one less than excited about pulling duty here. In one sense this is a war and we are living in the war zone. I am aware of the fact that I have been "robbed" of the pleasure of sleeping with the sound of the waves and the cool breeze. I now have to live behind locked doors, running my A/C. I would pay money to have that different. To be very candid, the property taxes we pay here are very reasonable and if we 'taxed' ourselves a little more, we could provide a place for these folks to live while they are on duty that would make them much more likely to want to be here. |
