An ambulance is vital, not just for the locals, but also for the "touristas" as well. You may have the greatest travel insurance that money can buy, but if you can't get to the hospital in time,or have trained medical help at hand,all it will get you is a flight home--in a box!!! As far as ongoing expenses or budget for this service, what about paying a "user fee" Even with our government health care in Canada, we have to pay for the ambulance ride, it was $45.00 the last time I had to use one. But that was a small price to pay to save my Mother's life when she had a heart attack. The user fee could be done on a case by case method--what kind of emergency, what supplies were used, what hospital etc. Just an idea to add to the "think tank" |
