Ralph is right. Columbia is the best bet. Every time we cross IN NL, we get pulled over for going 30 in a 70 (yes I said that right) and so forth. I am convinced that when we leave the FM3 place, they call and tell the police we just left. It is like clockwork. Mexican police in NL are thieves and crooks. Stay on all the toll roads as they get your around Monterrey way away from any urban scene. The route is pain free for the most part b/c you skirt around about every city except a very few.
