We put them in big, sealable plastic bags with a dryer sheet inside of it. While I hate the fabuloso smell from the lavanderia, if you use that detergent before you put them away, they'll still smell like that when you open it back up months later. Not sure if that's good or bad but they won't be mildew. I discovered it by accident once.

Because we're all living in the country, we seal the bags quite well because if the plastic bag is stored where it is is hot and dry, it's a great place for a scorpion. Don't like to create a nice space for them.

We have this other tip for closing up homes that we discovered on our sailboat ----if you close up your place tight, put a small, open bottle of Clorox upright in a bucket or something similar in case it spills. It evaporates during the summer and keeps the mold from growing. We use one per room, but just the tiny one. Doesn't take much.
