If you want to avoid poisonous chemicals, use a variety of essential oils in rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. Smells great and works well. I spray it on myself, around the bed, clothing shelves. Used at base of door can stop the ants from joining me.
Google to find many different recipes, key ingredients combine of all or some of following - Citronella, Clove, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Cajeput, Eucalyptus, Cedar, Catnip, Lavender, Mint.
