Hi Nancy, Wendy and I went through this process recently in San Miguel. Because of changes in the law as of mid-November, the process of actually getting the FM-3 card took us much longer than usual. In fact, after applying for a new FM-3 on our expiration date (Nov 21) we still don't have the new cards yet. But we do have a stamped notice letter that shows that we are in process, that we paid our fee, etc. and immigration said that was sufficient to drive around the country. However, with you flying out there is an additional concern as to what immigration at the airport will accept and you should definitely tell immigration that you have a flight out of the country on whatever day it is.
