Man o War--swimming 'a gusto' at Restaurant Las Palmas

At the same time as everyone was crouching in fear yesterday on the La M beaches, I was swimming 'a gusto' for over an hour yesterday at Boca. Not one malagua in sight. I entered at Restaurant Las Palmas and headed north toward Boca. The water was clear, temp 82F/27.7C, glorious.

AND, I had the whole beach to myself. Seriously. Not one single other person at the Restaurant, all afternoon--a gusto....

I wonder why no one else goes to this marvelous restaurant. I was gonna keep the secret all to myself, but oh well, a good thing needs to be shared....

Drive either the highway or the road past the lagoon to the road to Boca. Take the entry to the Old Abandoned Hotel. There's now a letrero there with the name of the restaurant on it. There are 6 plastic tables under the Palapa on the north side of the Hotel. Seafood only. And it's super. Two hammocks to while the afternoon away in. Marta the owner, a super woman. Kicked out of Tenacatita and trying to make a living, she lives in a tent nearby. We spend hours talking.

When I arrived 1 PM, it was closed. (Marta had gone to Melaque on emergency). The fridge had a chain on it. Bummer, the beer was under lock-down. I asked the only young boy around if he'd look for the key to the padlock. He scoured and found a gal who made a search of Marta's tent, found the key and presto, I had my beer to nurse till Marta returned...

She appeared soon and prepared me the best ceviche in the area. (Only rivaled by Ceviche Lola at Cato's). We spent the next few hours talking of herbal cures. I wound up being given some.

Then, she watched Bruce's dog, Chucho, while I swam.... a gusto in the mar.

Try to imagine a deserted beach in some farflung spot on the planet, a tiny beachside palapa with the freshest seafood, good company, an afternoon that tops the list of my best.
