The environmental issues out here are serious ones and they go beyond the sewage being dumped into the mangrove. Although the smell and hazard to the children playing in this water is really a tragedy. The beach on this weekend as well as others has become a virtual parking lot. The public walking path to the beach is now a highway. Cars and ATVs racing up and down the beach, are slowly destroying the ecosystem of the beach. You can see what used to be turtle nests circled with tracks and dug up. the speed and recklessness of the drivers of the vehicles are a danger to anyone walking or sitting along the beach. Certainly the beauty and serenity of what has always been one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Mexico is being drastically impacted. The sea birds and herons have diminished significantly. The fact is that it is illegal to drive on the beach, but that law is not enforced by a Manzanilla or Profepa at this point. The only thing that will change this is if people complain to both La Manzanilla and Profepa. The number to register a complaint to Profepa is 333-824-6508. You will have to choose option #1 from the menu, and supply an adress of where your complaint is coming from. So I would hope that anyone concerned about this assault on the beaches would make the effort to call and perhaps if enough are registered Profepa will do something about this drastic change to this once beautiful environment.
