Sabina is another beach vendor who comes to La Manzanilla from Villa Obregon. She says she likes to work here because the people here are "muy amable y menos codo", and I have heard this from other beach vendors as well. (In case you don't know, "codo" means elbow, but in this case, also means "cheap" - people here often touch their elbow to signify a person who is overly tight with their money.) You may have heard the heart-breaking story of Sabina's 20-year old daughter 'Dalila'. She disappeared under mysterious circumstances last year while returning home to Melaque on the bus, from her studies at Colima University. Sabina says the police have done nothing, but a private investigator for "disappeared" persons from Calfornia has been looking into it. There is still no news, and she was crying while telling me this. Dalila was apparently a very good girl, dedicated to her studies and devoted to her family. Sabina is 48 years old, born and raised in a small pueblo in the state of Guerrero. She says she is now concentrating on her younger children, and her 2 grandaughters, ages 2 and 3.
