June, Lyle and I were given the permanent resident option. The first question we had was about the vehicle. Marta, our representative that day, said that the status of the car would be the same as it was with our FM3 in that it matches your status as a person. But, she did say that their office handles the status issues for people and actually Aduana handles the cars. That all said, when we pick up our permanant cards in a couple of weeks, we will then go to Aduana and check it out. We know where Aduana is. That also said, I think those of you that "update" your vehicle's status to match your own status, do so in order to get your deposit back as you leave perhaps? Don't know. Last year we did just that. Got our new FM3, went to Aduana, got our vehicle's status extended to match the new FM3 status and we were good. We left Mexico 2 1/2 months later driving out. Got to the border and they had NO IDEA whatsoever about no stinking extension and w/o that, you ain't getting no deposit back. We were pissed off. When we got back in May, we went back to Manzanillo to inquire why our previous visit did not result in some dinero at the border. No answer. We asked if our extension formwork was sent to Banjercito, the folks who handle the dinero. Yes, they said. It was sent. Could we get a copy of the e-mail? They looked at each other and basically had the look of "What gringo say about e-mail?". They said they never e-mail anything. They use the postal system. Oh, so that explained it. Sure enough, about August, in Denver, I see my credit card got a credit from Banjercito in Nuevo Laredo. So, it worked. But to all of those who renew and scoot out soon after renewal, DO NOT BE SURPRISED if the paperwork ain't done. It takes a Mexican minute which is the polar opposite of a New York minute let me tell you. So, anyway, if the car is to match your status and the Perm Res card really has no expiration (that is what we were told), then it is difficult to imagine them giving you perm status on a car but who knows. We'll try to get to the bottom of it, if there is a bottom.

We'll see.
