Like most things in our village, accurate fishing conditions and future predictions depends on who talked to who . So here it is , the real nitty gritty . Fishing has stayed remarkedly good for the last few weeks, despite water temperature changes , gusty wind periods, and plain ol' bad luck days .The coastal water temperature fell by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit orecently, as demostrated by a large decrease of diving surf birds . When this happens certain species , including Dorado, move out to warmer water, and other species including Sierra, Chula, and Flounder (medios) move in and are more available. Evidenced today by riverman Mike bringing home 7 Chulas and 1 Sierra today to La Manz. Last week before the big ocean blow , reports were very good for Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, and Good numbers of striped and blue Marlin .
Today I joined Dave Hope and a half dozen of his friends on a charter of the Mary Chuy out of Barra, and collectively we buried the noses of 6 Yellowfin Tuna to 26 pounds in the fish box before heading home . The absolute highlight was watching Robin catch the first fish of his life, a 20 pound Tuna . Such a good feeling.
Surf fishing has slowed a bit, but still seeing sizable fish taken every day in front of La Manz . The fishing scene remains healthy.
