goodbye fm3....and now for the car....

Yesterday I went to the Big M for my annual renewel at immigration. I was hoping to get a "residente temporal" to avoid the car issue. However, after having a fm3 for 5 years, this is not an option. So...all went well was fingerprinted and in three to four weeks will go back to pick up my "residente permanente". So now, who has gone through the process to change their expired stateside plates to those that will satisfy the new vehicular laws here? And yes, my car is from the States, not imported, old, 1998, and still stickered from the last drive in in 2007. Anyone out there that has finished this process? Thanks in advance...and no, I do not want to drive it out....would rather do the plate thing if not entirely expensive or a ridiculous hassle. Stephanie
