di-ana...yes, you are totally right...but sometimes it doesn't happen that way. We lived on a 140 ft bank..we only lost 6 ft in 25 yrs. But we did have to take some trees off the bank because the bank would slide and leave the roots exposed..the wind would hit these trees and pull more soil off, so we had to have the trees removed so they would not take out more of the bank in bigger areas. Also, we had an underground stream that ran about 60 ft. down the bank...so sometimes it would get so wet that the bank would fall from the middle..the Geotech we had come every year said that there was not much we could do about the underground stream, well, not with our budget..it's very scary when the bank takes a dive..we sold our home of 25 yrs this past Sept. not because of the bank...too big of a house, too much property for us now. But I hear what you are saying...people who choose to live on high bank waterfront, better take some classes, or get some real information about taking care of the bank the best way you can...it could mean your life...don't take it lightly.
