Transito Tried to Run Over My Dog

Just something to consider as we all mull over the request foisted upon the 'gringo' community to make donations for the transito police fueld costs. As June and I and Lyle were walking to dinner tonight, right there on the street, one of the transito police officers (white truck #F-642 at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15th) was alone in his truck coming at us. He had the whole road to himself. We were on the side by the parked vehicles. Filomena was in front of us. As he approached us, I glanced right into his windshield and saw, as plain as day, him wrench the steering wheel hard to the right towards Filomena and she was then pinned up against a parked white big Chevy truck. At the last second, I saw the look on his face which was "Oh Chit" b/c he was going to plow right into the parked truck. He wrenched the wheel hard to the left at that point and did not lose any speed as he now swerved around. We shouted to him, or I should say at him in a manner that was clearly expressive of our shock that he'd try to run over a dog on the streets of La Manz. It was clear that he did not like any sort of challenge to his stature. So, he slammed on the brakes, threw the gear shift in Park and proceeded to work his way out of the vehicle to lend some Buford T. Justice style posture on us lowly citizens. He spoke English, which explains his ability to understand our/my expressions at our shock. June wondered why he would try to hit/run over her Perra? He said he did nothing of the kind. I let him know pretty clearly that my eyes, our eyes did not decieve us and he most certainly DID try to run over our dog and I stood my ground right there in front of him and awaited his retort. He got back in and gunned the vehicle down the road. As June said, perhaps it is our 'gringo' sense of respect for animals that threw him for a loop. I fully expect for him to remember who I am and find a way to check my seat belt in the future. Through the good graces of a local who called the Delegado for us and spoke to him of the situation, we were able to make our disdain known within minutes of the event. Hopefully this (you fill in the blank here) won't be joyriding around our town looking for targets. And for those of you who don't remember what Buford T. Justice is referring to, well, here you go
