http://www.aljazeera.com/video/americas/2013/02/20132305550321329.html The new law specifies that abandoned pets, such as street dogs, cannot be considered pests. The revised version of the Mexican capital's criminal code was passed in December 2012 but came into force on January 28, 2013. It states that anyone caught intentionally hurting animals in a way that leads to their death can be jailed up to four years and pay fines of as much as around $3,000 (£1,900). If the maltreatment does not kill the animal, the maximum sentence is two years and a top fine of around $750. The previous version of the criminal code only specified fines as penalties for animal maltreatment. On another post I read that the enforcement of the new law is the Protection Civil. |
