Dear Canadian citizen,
The Embassy of Canada has a warden network throughout the country in order to facilitate communications between the Embassy, its Consular network, and resident Canadians in the event of a local crisis such as civil unrest or a natural disaster. Wardens allow the Embassy to convey information and advice to Canadians, particularly in the early stages of a developing crisis situation.

Members of the Canadian community known to the Embassy and its network have been invited to assume the role of warden on a strictly voluntary basis. Wardens have no official status, nor do they receive any remuneration or reimbursement for expenses. Their role is mainly to relay information and advice from the Embassy to you, should an emergency situation develop. They also act as a known point of contact between you and the Canadian Consular network in Mexico in the event you are unable to contact a Canadian point of service directly during an emergency. You and your co-travellers registered with the Government of Canada have been assigned to the following district: Jalisco – Costa Alegre

Please find below contact information for the warden responsible for this district:

Mr. Jack Vooys
Calle 9 De Octubre 3
49460 La Manzanilla, Jalisco
Tel: (315) 351-7400
E-mail: jcvooys@yahoo.com

In order to make our warden network effective, it is important that our registration records be up-to-date. In the event any change occurs in your contact information, or should you leave the country, please inform us immediately so that your file can be updated or closed. Your co-operation will help us serve you better.

As a reminder, the Consular Affairs Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada provides a Travel Advice for Mexico at http://travel.gc.ca, which contains important information to assist you in making your visit a safe and positive experience. You will also find the latest travel-related news and advisories under "News and Warnings". In addition, information about consular services offered in Mexico is provided on the Embassy website at www.canada.org.mx under the heading "For Canadians."

Should you require consular assistance during your stay in Mexico, please contact our Consular Agency at (322) 293-0098 or 293-0099, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In case of an emergency, you can reach us at 01-800-706-2900. Please note that this toll free number is available throughout the entire country, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is reserved strictly for emergency calls concerning Canadian citizens.

After Embassy hours, you may dial 001-800-514-0129 which will connect you to the Emergency Watch and Response Centre of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada in Ottawa. Should you experience any problems, you can also place a collect call to the Centre at (613) 996-8885 by using the services of Canada Direct at 01-800-123-0200.

Your co-operation will help us to serve you better.

Yours sincerely,

Lyne Benoit
