Actually Kim, this is not an unusually bad year, there are always cases around, but we have not heard enough about them. A few years ago when I had it nearly everyone seemed to have it, and they were spraying all the time then..horrible stuff that you could hardly breathe when the trucks went by spraying poison all over everything and we all still got sick...go figure? Maybe the little mosquitos are immune to what they were using. There are like 4 or 5 different kinds of dengue and lots of them seem similar to a bad flu, some last for a week, and some are more intense and can last up to a month. Seems the best way to avoid it around our houses is to constantly be vigilent for any standing water in pails or containers, dog dishes, plant pot trays, or any place water can sit for a few days without being changed. Pretty hard to monitor the neighbors of course, and lots of people probably get bit going to restaurants etc away from their homes. I am going to check out the papaya leaf cure....maybe it is an alternative.
