Hi Charlie: I don't have an extra monitor. Had similar dead laptop monitor. I hear that it is either the lighing tube that goes around the inside of the monitor or the converter? Luckily we had a large TV with a VGA plug in on the back at our rental place. Bought a cheap cord and selected second monitor from F8 on the Dell and voila. Some automatically select a econd monitor and others are maual The funny thing was that after hooking up the new TV monitor, my original screen worked again. I googled the method for selecting a second or both monitors. If I selected the second monitor only, my screen was black. Maybe it had been inadvertently hit, or maybe the electrical connection had to be re started. There is a shop in Melaque. Care Comuter 3153555699 if the shop in town can't help you. There is also a shop in Bara De Navidad on same side of rad where ATM is just past it. The guy had a lot of laptops that he seemed to be using for parts. Please forgive the long post. I don't usually do this. Good luck
