I have thought it would be interesting to read a history of how people who traveled were able to have access to money as they traveled.

It was not too long ago that we had to take Travelers Checks and we didn't have credit cards and if we did, they didn't work (just like in LM today) Getting local currency carried an expensive exchange rate.

Before that, there was gold and jewels and all sorts of other things that usually cost the traveler to exchange into a local currency.

Even though I am spoiled to the point that if the left machine at the band rejects my card and I have to move to the right I get irritated, I stop and remind myself that our access to our bank accounts that allows us to get local currency at a market rate is WONDERFUL.
