La Manzanilla Art Walk/Camino del Arte de La Manzanilla, a showcase for many forms of arts and crafts, has become annual event on the last Sunday in January. It is now in its 6th year in La Manzanilla del Mar, Jalisco. Watch for posters around La Manzanilla and nearby towns in the weeks before the At Walk. If you are trying to decide the best time to visit, this may help you make your decision. From 10:00 until 3:00 on January 26, 2014, various artists and artisans who call La Manzanilla their home (annual or seasonal, local and expat) will show the fruits of their endeavours in several venues around the town. There are two-dimensional works in acrylics, collage, oils, pen/pencil, and watercolours. You can see jewelry, functional and decorative pottery, paper maché, fabric crafts, the emergent work of student artists and more. Although there is no cost to attend this event, several venues will have a labeled donations container where you can contribute to ensure support for student art programs both in - and out of - school will continue. Artists will be available to discuss their work and walkers, in some cases, will be able to talk to the artist and see his/her work in the very studio where the creative processes take place. Others, whose studios may be a little difficult to reach on foot, will be on hand at venues in the heart of town. All venues are identified on the map in beautiful glossy brochures (designed by a resident graphic designer). These can also be picked up at any venue on January 26, 2014. The numbered venues will be easy to find because each will have a huge sign out front with our eye-catching yellow 'sun dude' mascot and balloons attached to catch your attention. You can begin your walk at any location. In addition, you will note that calls for participants and announcements for the public appear on the lamanzanilla.info message board in late December/early January. You will find that many cafés and restaurants are open to serve thirst quenchers and snacks in addition to the light liquid refreshments available at many venues. We, the artists and artisans of La Manzanilla, are certain you will have a fabulous time, and we ask that you keep your eyes open for promotional material posted on the web, the message board and in local businesses in early January each year. In 2014 there will be 16 venues and 32 participants to visit. It is a wonderful way to spend a day and get to know this delightful town and its people. Don't forget to wear your hat and sunscreen - you'll be out in the noon-day sun. |
