Thank you to all of you who attended and supported the Fashion by the Bay fundraiser for La Catalina Foundation at Chantli Mare restaurant last week. We had a great turnout of 106 people! Every table was full with mostly women who came from different areas to attend this elegant event on the bay. Forty women from Santiago and Manzanillo made up a good part of our audience, who came together with Becci Starr. We also had attendance from Barra, Melaque, La Manzanilla, Careyes and even some Guadalajara residents.

Part of the fun was not only listening to Brenda and Ron’s captivating music performance and seeing the very eclectic group of models of all ages and several nationalities boldly show off clothing attire, swim wear and accessories, but many people also enjoyed seeing the colorful and elegant attires of the women attending the event.

A number of activities complimented the afternoon, including a raffle for three prizes, several door prizes, and handmade jewelry for sale by Deborah and some scholarships students being sold to raise additional funds for the computer lab. We also enjoyed a lively Cumbia dance by Octavio with one of our scholarship students, Jocelyn Estefania, who was also a participant in the fashion show. Our models consisted of three scholarship students who are all seniors in high school, including Yadira, Emily and Jocelyn Estefania; two scholarship moms, Nena and Olga; and four dazzling women who were 60-and-over, including Kay, Ani Mac, Jeanne and Joy. A big thank you to Octavio, who was our fearless leader for preparing the fashion show component of the event.

The food was colorful and scrumptious at Chantli Mare! The chef and wait staff worked very hard to serve so many people in the restaurant and accommodate their dietary needs. People were raving about the chicken and fish dishes and the handful of vegetarians very much appreciated the extremely tasty veggie lasagna option. And of the course, the setting was mesmerizing for those who had never been to this gem of a restaurant, Chantli Mare, set on the Tenacatita Bay.

As La Catalina Foundation is rapidly growing, both in terms of expanding our programs, the number of students we serve and our new facilities, our board of directors is working hard to find ways to increase our revenues to be able to sustain the growth and meet our expenses. Because of your support with this event, La Manzanilla children will be able to get a head start with computers and be better prepared for the future! We especially thank Chantli Mare Restaurant for their extraordinary generosity in hosting the luncheon and giving 100% of proceeds to the Foundation.

The funds raised from Fashion by the Bay are specially earmarked to pay for internet for the Computer Literacy Lab, install an awning over the large windows on this remodeled classroom,
purchase an additional computer and paying our Lab Teacher for additional instruction time. We anticipate that the computer lab will serve 100 local folks, including children, youth, our 45 scholarship students and adults from the community. Budget details on this event can be found on our News page at: http://www.lacatalinafoundation.com
