Of course, it started with dancing. We were teens in the sixties, but we didn't meet until the mid-seventies. The vagaries of the times brought us both to small-town coastal Oregon, Lyn from SoCal and Randy from upstate New York. Friends of a band, we'd dance with each other whenever they played a gig. Something happened when we danced. Our bodies spoke to each other in an ancient call and response language. Resistance was futile. Within a year we made our vows. We raised our kids in small-town America, and went dancing when we could. Over the years we often went to dance lessons, everything from ballroom to zydeco. We always learned new moves and had fun, but when we returned to the dance floor later the lessons were mostly forgotten and the old body language took over, moving to the music without steps. A few years ago we found LaManzanilla. What a great place for dancing! Live music nearly every night. Now we're in our sixties in the teens. Still doing the Hokey Pokey and turning ourselves around. That's what it's all about. |
