Disaster relief - need housing

Thank you to everyone who attended Sunday's meeting about helping the pregnant single mom with 2 children, one of whom is handicapped. We, the "Committee for Disaster Relief",are reaching out to the community to help find housing for this unfortunate family. Do you have a casita that is not in use at the moment or do you know of one that might be available? Her baby is due in 2-4 weeks and time is of the essence. Alternatively, there are many abandoned houses around La Manzanilla - would you ask your Mexican neighbours if they know who owns them and how to reach them? Is there an absentee owner who could make a house available? Ideally, it would be best if the house was furnished and clean with a fenced yard. As her daughter is almost 4 years old, she can go to kindergarten in the fall. Her handicapped son is two and can go to daycare. As these 2 buildings are at opposite ends of town, a house in the middle would be best rather than on the outskirts of town. She has no vehicle and no bicycle; no stroller or backpack for the infant and the handicapped boy can't walk so she must carry him. (This is another need that perhaps the community could give some thought to.) At the present moment, the mom has no money to pay rent and she will not be able to work for a few months. She has been surviving by selling off her belongings. Once her child is born and she can return to work, she is an excellent housekeeper and yard/garden worker with excellent references and she understands a limited amount of English.
