Yes David, some is true, some is not and some is in between.

Pedro is free but in need of legal council. Yes, as an employee of the county he gets some legal assistance. Although he was not technically arrested, he must insure that there is nothing left that can come back to bite him. Pedro knows he has enemies that would like to see him out of office and wants any possible ammunition out of the picture. Records are not always accessible to people here and only certain people can get to them, such as lawyers with some pull.

Also, Pedro needs a lawyer he can trust that has not been bribed by possible adversaries. It is a convoluted system with all kinds of nooks and crannies that can trip someone up. (I'm sure we have all bumped into this and it can seem totally not understandable or even crazy.) Pedro is pretty savvy but knows that he needs some good help to keep his record clean and in good shape without any possible connection to the murders that are under investigation.

Also, the State of Colima is involved because the bodies were found near or in Manzanillo. Pedro is unknown to them and was sometimes treated just like any other John Doe (or Juan Perez). Pedro doesn't look like or pass as a university graduate or a local politician. He is simply our Pedro. This could have its consequences with the class system which exists here. Who knows?

Lastly, Pedro's grandmother is not ill. Where did this bit of info come from? It is kind of funny though.

All for now, Cruz
