Thank you everyone for your generosity and kindness in assisting Angelica. Here is a brief update:
A used double stroller was found at an incredibly low price (which the seller lowered further when informed of the situation!) Angelica is much more mobile and not nearly so exhausted as when she had to carry her handicapped son on her hip as well as her huge belly and chase after her active 4 year old daughter.
Individuals have been giving her non-perishable food, diapers and clothes for the newborn, all much appreciated.
She has been to the local doctor and she can receive free vitamins in Melaque and we are taking her there tomorrow to get them.
I accompanied her to the local doctor today to find out about the birthing situation. When Angelica goes into labor, she is to go the centre de salud where the doctor will give her an authorization paper to gain admittance to the hospital in La Huerta or Cihuatlan.(arrangements have been made that either Cruz or myself will be available to drive her in.) I asked about community nursing care for the first few days she is at home and there is none provided - she must hire someone to help her during the first 4-5 days. There is no special nursing care required - simply help her to shower; do some cooking and cleaning, and look after the other 2 children while she cares for the baby.
She is scheduled for a meeting with DIF tomorrow at 11:00 am where we hope to gain some clarity as to what is available for her as far as government assistance.
We did find out today that there is a homeless shelter in Cihuatlan if we can't find any accommodation here.
To raise some immediate funds for food, diapers, transportation costs and the $400 pesos needed for the ulta-sound, she is selling tickets to raffle off her ladies Fossil watch (valued at $2000.00 Pesos.) Tickets are $50 Pesos. She will be in the jardin over the next few days and in the tiengas on Friday and your support is so very much appreciated.
The "committee for disaster relief" is still seeking some housing for Angelica. There may be an absentee landlord in your neighbourhood who might be willing to exchange rent for house and yard maintenance. Any leads would be a help.
More news tomorrow after the meeting.
