The 6th Annual Camino del Arte La Manzanilla was our most successful yet. Registration got under way in early December, and by the January 20 final registration deadline, we had a total of 42 paying participants, 11 sponsors, and 18 venues to visit.

Word of our LM Art Walk has spread and many folks planned their vacation to catch it. Others arrived from other towns in buses, taxis and cars. We had walkers from as far afield as Manzanillo to the south and Perula to the north. Our local businesses reaped benefits as well since walkers must refresh and replenish. In addition to seeing a variety of work from a local artists and artisans, they ate, they drank, they shopped, and they enjoyed our beach for a multi-faceted Sunday outing.

It was our first year to try T-shirt sales and our first year to offer small incentives for donations. Both were good ideas and helped to create, for the first time, a substantial fund for Student Art Programs in La Manzanilla. It enabled us to offer grants to three separate programs in La Manz for 2014 - an after-school Arts program, a Saturday Arts program, and a summer Arts program. We wish these program co-ordinators every success with their activities through the year.

We are already thinking ahead to next year and I want to be the first to tell you - mark your calendars:

• for Walkers - the Camino del Arte La Manzanilla Art Walk 2015 will take place (as always, the last Sunday of January) on Sunday, January 25, 2015.
• for Artists/Artisans - the brochure deadline is Friday, December 19, 2014. You can register later, but if you want your name in lights (to appear in the brochure), this is the date to remember. You will see messages on this site in early December. When you see these messages, follow the instructions, "DO NOT DALLY!"
• for the Art Walk (Volunteer) Organization Committee: there will be an organizational meeting called in early December - likely Monday Dec 1st, so watch for that announcement and be ready to jump in … "Many hands make light work" as my Mother used to say.

Thanks to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors and patrons who helped make this a Walk to Remember.
