I made the trip several years ago, from north to south the baja drive is long (1000 miles), boring and the roads are not up to anyones standard, No toll roads. About the ferry trip, well it is an overnight venture to say the least. It leaves La Paz mid day and arrives (if it is not late) mid morning. The good part is that is lands at the south end of Mazatlan so driving out of town is no big deal. As as as it being faster, I would certainly doubt that. The only thing I can say is that it is a different trip seeing an entirely different part of Mexico. If you want more information, email me and I will fill you in on the details.
