I, too, will raise my glass to Cisco's Amigos and the changes it, and similar organizations, has wrought along our wee bit of coastline. I recall the fornicating, scratching, fighting, bleeding swarm of dogs, the b###hes with their teats swinging so close to the ground from who-knows how many litters, and the puppies themselves, diseased, eyes streaming, some near barren of fur. This was my first visit to Barra some 20 years ago. The scene of greatest horror was the premises of that hotel that has never been completed. That scene no longer exists. The territorial bar-room brawlers of the human species hold no greater appeal for me, but they, at least, are able to seek medical help for themselves, unlike our four-legged friends whom we have domesticated and to whom we owe the debt of great care and love.
