September weather stats: record-breaking rains!

September 2014 was a little cooler than the historical average, and quite a bit cooler than the previous 3 months. Yay! That was thanks to all the rainy days we had: 3 heavy spells of rain from tropical storms (Norbert, Odile, Polo) and several other rains from standard thunderstorms. Check this out: September shattered the previous rainiest September on record, and was the all-time rainiest month on record (2004-2014.) See below for details. We managed to not have a lot of damaging flooding, probably because July & August were so dry. The ground was able to soak up some of the heavy rains (at least from Norbert anyway.) Hope we don't get a deluge any time soon, because it would run off a lot faster now since the ground is still somewhat saturated. Rain: Total for month: 22.16" / 563mm (Wow!) Rainiest day: 7.04" / 179mm on 9/3 YTD total (thru 9/30): 40.56" / 1030mm Historical avg September rainfall (2004-2013): 10.32" / 262mm Temperature: Highest: 90.9°F / 32.7°C on 9/27 Lowest: 74.1°F / 23.4°C on 9/4 Avg daily maximum during the month: 87.5°F / 30.8°C Avg daily minimum during the month: 77.7°F / 25.4°C Historical avg daily max temp for Sep (2004-2013): 88.5°F / 31.4°C Humidity: Highest: 88% on several dates Lowest: 56% on 9/21 Avg daily maximum during the month: 85.0% Avg daily minimum during the month: 70.9% Heat index: (approximate) Highest: 109°F / 43°C on 9/27 Avg daily maximum during the month: 99.4°F / 37.4°C Historical avg daily max HI for Sep (2004-2013): 101.3°F / 38.5°C Records: Rainiest September (previous record: 15.40" / 391mm in 2010) Rainiest of any month (previous record was 16.64" / 423mm in October 2011 (Hurricane Jova)) 2nd-highest 1-day rainfall: 7.04" / 179mm, on 9/3, during Norbert. 3rd-highest multi-day storm total: 12.40" / 315mm, 9/1 thru 9/4 (Norbert) (Keep in mind that the temperature readings took a step up in Sep 2011 when the measuring location moved from Deanna & Darwin's apartments up in the breezes above the church, down to my un-breezy and warmer backyard in the flats near the Jardin. Could be a 2-4 degree F difference on calm hot days(??))
