Auto Legalization

Perhaps some good new for those expats that become permanent residents with cars that need to be nationalized. I was going to wait to spread the news once I got through the process myself but I couldn't wait. Is this fair, not sure but at least there will be some support while I trudge through.

It seems that through a citizen's group, Onappafa, we should be able to legalize our vehicles without going to the border and from a computer. Also, perhaps as early as November of this year, we can even legalize Japanese, German, and other foreign made cars (no Korean).

Sounds too good and I'm in mid-process now with about 10 days to go. At that point I'm supposed to receive a document which allows me to go and get my plates in La Huerta. And no, I will not escape going to Autlan for the Auto check. The price is about $150 dollars more than if I had gone to the border. But I believe that all the fees have gone up as of October with the reorganzation of agents at the border.

Also, there is a $1,400 peso membership fee to join Onappafa, Organizacion Nacional de Proteccion al Patrimonio Familiar.

I hope the Corruptor bus doesn't end up visiting my house . I'll let you know the results, Cruz
