Surge protection is a very involved subject and he in LM as in many other areas of Mexico, power is poorly regulated. Between the brown outs, poor grounds with in the house system and power spikes (surges), anything pluged in is subject to some very serious abuse. Cheap power bars are just that, cheap, and offer very little in the way of protection. The APC units are one of the better solutions but not the best, what you need to do is to if possible protect the entire house. As a commerical and industrial electrical contractor we installed many such systems for the protection of sensitive electronic equipment. We relayed exclusively on a company in Texas (Delta) which produced an excellent product and that was reasonably price. Before you all rush out to purchase power bars, it is best that you understand what they can and can not do.
