| as a new business we offered this event to many people to host as their own event - meaning they decide who gets the proceeds as well as they manage the door, the receiving and placement of the trees and in general relieving us of the duties that my mother, kate, jeanne, brian, glenn and I took on for so many years. the first to actually show the passion needed to organize this event was the gym participants. I do not want to speak without proper knowledge but it is my understanding that the gym is now run independently by a Mexican woman who believes in the gym yet does not want to charge more to make ends meet - and without a donation, the ends won't meet and the gym risks closing . a very generous couple set up the gym and then turned it over to this woman and then Nancy and June, teachers at the gym, felt the need to keep something going that makes a difference in our community. the point is NOT for the gringos to use it. It is for the locals, the Mexicans, who are involved and ulitize the services offered. when gringos do use it, it is a bonus to the daily income that helps possibly in the winter, yet we have the summer months also to contend with. I believe in this as a great cause to keep something going that has been such a benefit to the local community. I hope you will see it the same way. We are creating trees to make money to keep the gym alive for the local Mexicans who live her year round and want to work out and/or shake their booty to some Zumba! good for them! |
