Pedro and Family

I'm sending out the message that enough $ has not been collected to cover the family debt. Stephanie reports that there is about $108 pesos at the bookstore.

From what people have told me, there is a confusion as to whether help is needed or not. It is needed to cover borrowed money.

The question is whether or not help will be needed to cover legal assistance. For now, Pedro can not return until any connection to the homicides has been thoroughly cleared. People are too ready to point fingers and this could have consequences for the family as a whole.

So if you were thinking of helping, please do. We will try to keep you updated. Cruz

Well. the family informed me that they have been receiving funds directly from people that are contacting them personally. They are keeping a list and I will let you know how we are doing.

The family says to thank you so much for your help, concern and support. 'Es muy impresionante'.

Pedro is ok and anxious to return home, Hopefully there will be some concrete news to report soon but things and information are coming slowly. He thanks everyone for supporting him and the family. It is really helping him get through this difficult time knowing that his family is being cared for.

He asks that we be patient with the process and that he is working to get home ASAP. La Huerta is giving him time to get things in order for his safe return. Pedro is sorry he isn't here to do the jobs he had committed to but when possible his family is stepping in to cover.

Once again, thank you to all, Cruz

Cruz, how much money is needed right now? We want to help but we don't know if $1000 pesos or $10,000 pesos or $100,000 pesos is the ball park that needs to be covered. We have a number of friends who agree with us that, for example, a $1000 peso donation from each of us would go a long way...but would it go too far, at least for now? If someone could start giving concrete numbers that would be a great help. Plus, what do you see as the difference between giving the money at the book store versus just taking it to Domingo at his home? Thanks for your concern and involvement in this unfortunate mess. We very much hope that Pedro is home for good ASAP.

Thank you, Jonathan, for the inquiry. Right now the family wants us to know that they have received enough to cover their debt and some to cover Pedro's present expenses, including of lots cell phone time. They will hold on to the debt amount, which was close to 4,000 pesos, just in case it is needed.

Pedro himself is feeling that he is close to coming home. The legal help he has received is answering questions he had and things look good as he was never arrested. He doesn't know how much this help will cost, if anything.

So far, lets hold tight as the situation is unfolding without a lot of need for legal assistance. And Pedro has enough $ to get home on. Hurray and thank you to all who have chipped in. Pedro and the family can't express their appreciation enough. Cruz

PS: A thank you to Daniel for this wonderful Message Board that has allowed us to communicate and get Pedro some needed assistance.

Wonderful that this community circles Pedro during this time. I am wondering given that this situation arose out of his role of delegado doing his job at the rodeo whether it is appropriate for the municipality covering his expenses then all citizens would be contributing to the legal and other challenges he is facing.

Yes, it is nice that we have come together around our servant and friend and that he is anxious to get back.

La Huerta does and did provide legal help for their employee. However, in this case it was important that Pedro get totally independent information and advice. As we reported earlier, his situation and record look good and, he thinks, he won't have to pay a lot for the information. He'll be back any day now.

Now we hope that the culprits (I'm guessing it is more than one) get caught. Does anyone know how the investigation is going? Any leads? These cases seldom get solved, especially if they are drug related. We'll have to wait and see if Pedro can shed any inside light on this case's progress. Cruz
