No there is not. The guys who go around buying scrap metal, batteries, aluminium cans etc will take pop bottles, but no other glass. Bummer!

Does anyone know the story on beer bottle recycling? I would love to
give the reusable ones to Javier and Maria - but they say they can't get money for them -
I think they can only get money
back for a complete set -
like a six-pack. So if one has, say, 5 returnable bottles, what do you do with them?
...and why does Mexico allow the manufacture of "non-returnable" beer bottles?
Is it a cheaper kind of glass or something?

My observation is that returnable bottles have value only when one is buying more beer.
Take in empties at the time of purchasing beer, and there will be no 'deposit' charged.
By themselves, the bottles are worth nothing.

We buy by the case at one of the depositos when we first get down here, replace as needed, and return the empties when we leave for a full refund. Have also bought just two in our local store in Boca de Iguanas and returned them for a 10 peso refund.

This is getting very interesting. So you get a 5 peso per bottle refund in
cash? My neighbors Javier and Maria would go for that, I think.
Which deposito here in La Manzanilla would give them a cash refund? any idea?
Or is this a gesture of goodwill for foreigners, not available to locals?
I think in Canada the law says if you sell drinks in bottles, you have to
accept the empties, and pay the right amount. (not to say we have the same law here,
but maybe?)
