lungs

I had these several years ago. It was pretty awful. The best the CDC control docs could figure out. There were other people at the time with the same issue.

The possible reason was that I stayed class to where they were digging up for the new road. I am sure the dust as is has some sign of spores; however, when dug up the fungal spores are stronger and attack the respiratory system.

I was sick for a good 3 months.

hope that helps.

Mod D- Could you join this thread to Jesse Connor's posting about Valley Fever? I think this is a very important topic. Mark

Re: lungs- Lyle was very sick as well

When the road was being paved Lyle and I were both incredible sick. Weeks at a time with what appeared to be bronchitis, wheezing, coughing and lots of mucus. Lyle was on steroid inhalers and using a nebulizer a few times a week. We took him to allergist in Colima who treated him with twice weekly allergy shots. The treatment helped but it was our trip back to Denver in the summer that really cleared up his lungs.

I have no medical proof but heuristically speaking I would have bet money on the fact that the dust being stirred up but the brink paving of the road was the culprit.

Just for reference Lyle and I had both been diagnosed with asthma, me 15 years ago and he as a 5 year-old. So we were probably both more susceptible to dust in general.

Valley Fever is otherwise known as coccidioidomycosis, a fungus infection which some people get over with little or no continuing problems and others, like myself, almost die from due to faulty diagnosis and improper treatment. I contacted mine the Spring of 2007 (I think that's the year.) when the streets were first being dug up for sewers. Fungus spores must have been floating all over the place. TWO YEARS went by of being treated for asthma which I didn't have before getting a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Check out the symptoms of "cocci" on the web and you'll see how they mimic other maladies such as influenza. You need a special culture done under sterile conditions to determine whether or not its "cocci"

Judith , sorry to hear that you were mis-diagnosed and suffered through the 2years before proper diagnosis . Do you remember where you received your Valley Fever diagnosis .? I was fortunate in that Stanford did a biopsy on my mass and diagnosed me right away without me losing precious time . I still have it , and am anxious to have my x-rays as soon as I get back to see if the mass has continued to shrink . It is very important for people here to know that we now have 2confirmed diagnosis es , and for those who don't shake it off on their own , it can be deadly .
