This is fantastic news! I also heard that there is a new law in Mexico against animal abuse that will carry fines and jail time. Haven't researched that as yet.

YAY!!!!!! so HAPPY to hear this... yes Lisa, that is true. According to friends from Guad they have put laws in place to protect animals from abuse and neglect. I wonder who will come HERE to enforce that law though. I guess you just do a denuncia, but someone needs to respond...not sure how that works. It works in the big city but out here....???

The newest and strictest animal cruelty law in Mexico, as well as a constitutional amendment, were passed by the legislature here in the state of Jalisco about two weeks ago. The 'mayor' of PV has already made education/enforcement a top priority. I'm following this issue as best I can, in order to learn how it should be applied here in La Manz. (The Jalisco law's protection applies primarily to pets, not circus animals, cock- or bullfighting etc.) Stay tuned...

I should have said that the new law applies "primarily to cats and dogs" (not pets). Let's hope that Don Luis' 21 cats and five dogs are totally safe now!
