Hi Daniel, it just occurred to me that by posting our email addresses, we might
be attracting SPAM to our inboxes...what do you think?

Oops! Think I just answered my own question - we aren't posting the address
- only a little white envelope that Spam spiders can't read, right?

Spiders read what is in the envelope then lick it shut so you don't know
they read it.

Re Spam, who cares.

If you're on the internet ever, you'll get spam. Just filter it. Your carrier should do it. And watch for the weird emails....and banks NEVER email you so do NOT click on anything from a bank. Always be suspicious.

Hi Carol (and others)

I didn't mean to be flippant in my reply but spam is not much of
a problem for me, at least on the reciving end. If I think of the emails
I have sent which either did not arrive or were found later in someone's
spam folder then I would change my assessment to somewhat of a problem.
All in all I would say hats off to the service providers and others
who have changed what was in the past a huge problem and almost made
it go away. Is anyone having a serious issue with spam?

I don't mung my address on this or other message boards or forums.

There are several things one can do as an end user, one is discression
Do not send out emails to groups of people with all of the email addresses
visible in the Carbon Copy box of the email, a lot of people do not respect
this very simple method of guarding the email address of others from
the email harvesters

Currently I am getting some spam from language translators from all over
the world offering their services. I don't know if that came from signing up
with Duolingo or not.

Fun fact - 60% of all internet traffic is by bots (non humans).

Hi Daniel: I'm using Duolingo and I don't get spam, or I don't see spam from language translators, so you may have to look elsewhere. Maybe. Who ever really knows?

OK, you got me Laurisa. I was thinking more about the emails that say your account is overdue or they need to verify your account. Things like that. Things that don't really make sense. Banks do not verify things via email...or they don't in Canada. However, people who want to get your password, etc. do.

Always be a skeptic. If you're not sure, phone the bank, financial company or the purveyor of viagra. :D

If you're ever in southern Minnesota (Austin), you can visit the SPAM museum!
