Bay of Tenacatita, second largest in Mexico?

I recently heard that the Bay of Tenacatita (our bay) is the second largest
bay in Mexico. I can't find any citation for that stat. Anyone feel like helping
me find it?

I don't think so.... I found this but I hardly call it a good citation

"Many of the local residents and many of the previously written articles about the Puerto Vallarta area will tell you that Banderas Bay is the largest bay in Mexico and the second largest bay in North America, only behind the Hudson Bay. Obviously they haven’t seen the Chesapeake Bay! Again, a slight stretch of the truth in that it’s only the third largest bay in Mexico. At approximately 500 square miles in area, one could say that Banderas Bay is a bit smaller than the 6,000 square mile Campeche Bay and the same holds true for Chetumal Bay, the large body of water located south of the Yucatan Peninsula. Most locals indicate that Banderas Bay is not only the largest bay in Mexico, but it’s also the third largest bay in the world. Wow, now that’s a real stretch, when you have bays the size of Bengal Bay with its area of 1,300,000 square miles. We hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but, Banderas Bay might not even rank in the list of the world’s largest bays; nevertheless, it’s large and it’s deep!

Perhaps one could contact the author of the article and find out his source.

My little search found that the largest bay is Bahia De Campeche. It covers 6000 sq. miles (16000 sq. km--that what it says) , but I couldn't find a comparable size for Tenacatita Bay.

Just looking at a Google map, it appears that the bay at Manzanillo is larger than our bay. If that is the case, it would make T bay the 3rd largest.
Having said that, having been to all 3, T bay is by far the best of the 3. Better beach, waves (unless you are a surfer) and cleaner water.

Zooming in on this digital map of Mexico put out by INEGI
http://gaia.inegi.org.mx/mdm6/
it looks like Magdalena Bay in Baja is bigger than Tena. There are some very large estuaries in Nayarit, but sometimes the difference between a bay and an estuary is based on what the locals call it. According to Google, an estuary is a drowned river valley.

Funny my name didn't show up on that last post. Did I screw up? Anyway, the digital map is very cool - check it out.

No, but if you zoom them all to the same zoomness you can kind of see. Also there get measured in two different ways - by the size (sq. km.) or by the length of the coastline. Searched in google mx but couldn't find anything about sizes either
