Yay! Finally we get some rain! A nice cluster of thunderstorms rolled into town from the east around 7PM, bringing some gusty winds (and briefly some blowing dust,) then followed by rain. I was out near the first vado on the way out of town and it rained hard enough to get that vado flowing several inches deep. There was a lot of runoff coming down main street and pouring into the lagoon at the croc viewing kiosk. Also lots of big colorful land crabs scuttling about. This isn't enough to open the lagoon or the arroyo to the sea.
I would guess that part of town got at least 1/2", but here at my place the rain gauge only got to 0.36" so far.
The temperature dropped a few degrees, but the humidity went up also. It will take some more rains to make a dent in our heat backlog. But so far so good!
By the way, the usually near-realtime and reliable GOES IR satellite loop ( http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/epac/flash-avn.html ) that I use a lot has been a few hours delayed this afternoon. Don't know what's wrong. There isn't anything organized on the horizon, just the usual chance of late afternoon thunderstorms. And maybe there's a slightly higher chance of a daytime storm today.
