Peace Cam

Even though I am still waiting on some parts I have a link to the Beach Cam
(which I call the Peace Cam as it shows the peace which is so abundant here)
It will be functioning intermittently but should be on most times of the day.
One day it will be on all the time and have a much better picture.

Thanks, Daniel, it looks great from up here in Missouri. Are you broadcasting audio as well? I'm not hearing anything.

I have an old conch shell here. I'll have to make do by putting it up to my ear while I watch the video stream.

So when do we get some DRONES to watch every [BODY] all the time?

Is that NEXT?

Did you say ""POLICE CAMS""?

I live there as a unencumbered tourist...

Not to be looked under a 24 hour surveillance program?

I maybe just reading this wrong.....could it be that?

Some people just want their privacy!

So know will that be illegal?

Or maybe you can spot one of the cartel members?

Or some one stealing?

Or sex on the beach scene?

Or who's dog shit on the playa?

Or just for laughs and fun for a few some where else in the world?

Right....I could go on and on about what comes

next but you all can then use your imaginations??????

I think you'll like this picture?

Hi Marble,

Unless someone were to walk up onto my office property you can't tell
who or what anyone is. Besides, when I get it up where I want it it will
be impossible to identify anyone. Is just for the scenery.

I believe the idea of this camera is to capture the ocean moods and sunsets etc. When posts were made of sunsets people who could not see them loved to enjoy what was happening that night or when there was a fish boil or whatever. I know because I took a lot of those pictures and have lots of feed back. Now people can just hook into the cam and watch live. Personally I think it will be lovely. Just think of being away from La Manz watching a storm come in or seeing the rain on the ocean, sunrise and sunset on the ocean. Daniel is just doing trials. He will get it elevated when he gets the complicated thing working, Good luck Daniel.

Maybe Marble went a bit over the top, but really, do we need this? It's nice to have somewhere to go that doesn't have cameras. I certainly think it should be turned off until it is high enough that no one can be recognized. Better yet leave it off. If people want to remember this lovely place take some photos. Broadcasting this idyillic setting to all and sundry doesn't sound like a great idea to me. I sure don't understand why so many of you seem to think it's so wonderful.

Daniel has already stated that this peace cam will not be intrusive in any way, so why not believe him? Those of us who actually live in La Manz year round think that it's a great service, because we can check the tides and general state of the ocean (can I swim? surf? kayak?) without having to go all the way to the beach first to see what is happening. You can always choose not to watch, si?

Daniel

I for one like the cam. I just wish it were available more often. It sure beats the P.V. cams for psychic therapy. For those of you who object. What are you in witness protection? You know where the camera is, don't go there.

Sincerely a part timer

What a perfect world this board is: if you don't like something just complain about it and it will go away. I feel like I've joined a cargo cult wait for the Peace Cam to come back. I look for it two times a day. Why do I want to watch it? It makes me smile.

That's right, Peace Cam. I kind of like the sound of it. Peace Cam.

Lynne, I will admit you're right the cam will be good for checking beach conditions. Neal and Ron, what's the deal? If someone has a different opinion than you then let's go on the offensive to put the offender in their place, so maybe they won't dare have anything else to say? Different ideas should make for discussion, not put downs.

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Caroline I am sorry if anyone was offended by my post of 8/5. I thought I was being funny but as often happens not everyone agrees. I went back and reread your 8/5 post and you have some valid points though in my book the positives of having the cam out weigh the negatives. Neal

The (GP) i.e. "GENERAL Public" are delighted!

The fact is "Lets PONY-UP TO THIS FACT"
It's a __SURVAILENCE CAMERA SYSTEM__!

"PURE & SIMPLE"!

Smile "YOUR ON CANDID CAMERA"!

Dan has had in the past people snooping around his place lately.

That might be how he justifies it.

It also might be just for "fun & games".

RIGHT?

I heard you the first time Dave, no need to repeat yourself. It doesn't have
enough resolution to be a survilence camera, you can't tell who is who.
No big brother or conspiracy, its just a simple view of the beach and
weather, something I want to share whith those who care to tune in.
(should be up again next week, I will add to this thread when it is)

a veryyy cool idea Daniel. This is my first chance to see your Peace Cam and unfortunately it seems it's not working today??!!

P.S. I don't know why people always have to find the negative about something....yes, we are all entitled to our own opinions but as one person commented "if you don't like it, don't look at it" ...or....do what I normally do on this board...don't comment at all because no one wants to hear it. I am only commenting today because I want to see it

Whatever the reason for the cam....2 thumbs UP!!!

Once, and sadly only once, since Daniel originally (Aug 2) posted about the activation of his webcam, has it been active when I clicked on the link.

It was a picture lacking in resolution from (what appeared to be) the beach side door of his office. I "found" La Manz 5 years ago as a result of the confluence of seredipity augmented by technology. The technology, in part, being this web site, the coastal aerial photos taken and published on tomzap, the ability to book my own airline tickets and car rentals online, google maps & satelite / streetview of Hwy 200, and the various Youtube videos and images available on the web (remember when it used to be called the "Information Super Hiway").

One must assume that webcams are almost ominpresent now. Several of my co-workers have them installed in their personal vehicles. The company I work for is considering installing them in all their large trucks, railroads, for the most part, have them in every locomotive. The elevator company I work for now has two crews dedicated to interfacing cameras in building elevators.

Several times I have seen one of the Google cars driving down roads "scanning" and recording for streetview. Several times in the last few months have I passed someone on a sidewalk who was equipped with something akin to "Google glasses" or a personal webcam.

Public spaces are just that -- public spaces. The evolution of the availability of information is disconcerting but, I doubt that the well named "Peace cam" will ever "go viral".

Thanks Daniel

Jim

Hi Sparks, normally the moderator would delete your post due to your not
taking responsibility for your post (I looked up your IP address and
realized it was you). But I understand your curiosity about the cam
so will respond. Its been a learning curve to say the least, I thought I
had all the pieces in place last Friday but it turned out a couple of
pieces could not interact with each other due to something called
Isochronous data transfer and I was foiled again. So we are looking at a
couple of weeks before I have the right pieces in place for the dream to
materialize.

I didn't think I'd have anything more to add to this subject, but I just can't let this one go by. There seems to be some misconception that people who like their privacy must have something to hide or are paranoid. Many people would just prefer not to be on camera. (which we know is not to be the case with the Peace Cam anyway) Going out and about unobserved, and it's started in our personal spaces too now, with drones, is getting more and more difficult to do. Those of you who don't think this a big deal may at some point realize what we've lost.
